Cary Pint Entrepreneurial Bio

Cary Pint is the Engineering Entrepreneurial Fellow in Mechanical Engineering and the Charles Schafer (Battelle) Chair in Engineering and Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at ISU.  He is a native of Waterloo, Iowa, having received his B.S. in Physics at the University of Northern Iowa, and Ph.D. in Applied Physics at Rice University and began his career as a Research Scientist at Intel Labs before pursuing a career in academia.  Pint has spent much of his academic career working to develop ways to bridge the gap between traditional core engineering education and entrepreneurship/innovation.  Among companies he has had a role in starting, Pint is the CTO of SkyNano LLC – a company spun out of his research team, and on the advisory board of Gridspan LLC – a company spun out of an idea fostered during his Thermodynamics course.  Among many national/international honors, Pint has been named an R&D 100 award winner, a Forbes Magazine Top 30 under 30 Disruptor in Science/Innovation, and Top 20 under 40 talent in Academia by the American Society of Engineering Education among others.   Pint’s research interest revolve around the study, design, and novel use of energy systems – including batteries and energy harvesting, grid-scale energy transmission, and the intersection between energy systems/sustainability.
