Dr. Guiping Hu is an Engineering Entrepreneurial Fellow and a faculty in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering. She received her graduate degrees from the University of Pittsburgh (MS, PhD, Industrial Engineering) and University of Science and Technology of China (BS, Management Science, BE, Automation). Her research has focused on operations research and data analytics with applications in bioinformatics, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy systems, and sustainable supply chain design. Dr. Hu’s research has been supported by NSF, USDA, DOE, and DOD with over $11M funding. She received the Mid-Career Research Award and has been recognized as a Plant Sciences Institute Scholar at Iowa State University. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with companies from multiple sectors, including agriculture, airline, manufacturing, and energy. Her research projects strive to make an impact on industrial practice while advancing science and technology frontiers. She has co-filed three invention disclosures through ISURF. She has founded two start-up companies, focusing on commercializing data analysis and decision support algorithms in the bioinformatics and agriculture sectors. In addition, Dr. Hu is active in serving the profession of industrial engineering, including as current president of the Operations Research division and past president of the Engineering Economy division in the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), and as the vice chair of the Service Science section in the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS).
